Those of you that know me know I love a good kid's science experiment/art project. After all, that was how we survived 3 months at home during the pandemic. And I've seen all of the hairdryer + canvas creations people have done, but this was a new take from Tinkerlab that I had never seen before.
All you need is foil, crayons, a griddle, and some white paper. And maybe some glitter that was still on the counter from the last art project. No? Just me?
Cover the griddle in foil, and turn it on to 200 degrees. Let the griddle heat up, then turn it down to "Warm". Then cover the edges of the griddle with towels to protect little hands (you'll thank me for this later). Add a sheet of white paper on top, and you're ready to create!
As the crayons touch the griddle, they melt and make super smooth and mixable colors. G had a great time mixing and creating. When the crayons melted down to the paper wrapping, we just peeled it off and kept going. G did a few before I finally got a turn, and I have to admit, it's very satisfying. My only complaint is if the crayons get really melty, sometimes they can leave a greasy ring around the color - you can see this on our joint space-themed artwork.
Final Rating: Fun, but needs supervision. But hey, it's always more fun with a little danger involved, right?
